The Attorney General “Cesar Adalid Cisneros Basan” said, “Bolivia is currently prosecuting 24 defendants for attempted coup on June 26, 2018, with a possibility of facing up to 25 years in prison.” He also mentioned, “The investigation has proceeded rapidly, with formal charges issued in 6 counts over the past 11 days.”

Of the 24 suspects, 3 are detained at home while the rest are under custody in Bolivian prisons.

Going back to June 26, 2018, a group of soldiers led by Army Commander “Juan José Sunicagua” (who has since been dismissed) used tanks to attack the government headquarters at Murillo Square in La Paz. They are charged with armed rebellion, assault, threatening national security of the president and other officials, destruction of public property, and misuse of public goods and services.
